The 2021 NBA Playoffs was the postseason tournament of the National Basketball Association's 2020–21 season, which began on December 22, 2020. The playoffs began on May 22 and ended with the 2021 NBA Finals in July. The Los Angeles Lakers were the defending champions, but they were the 7th seed and lost to the Phoenix Suns in the first round; the 2020 Finals runners-up Miami Heat were eliminated in the same round by the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Suns advanced to their first NBA Finals since 1993 with a 4–2 series win over the Los Angeles Clippers; the Milwaukee Bucks won over the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Finals series en route to their first NBA Finals since 1974 NBA Finals. The Bucks defeated the Suns in six games to win their first championship since 1971.
None of the teams that made it to the Conference Finals in the 2020 NBA Playoffs made the Conference Finals in 2021. These were the first playoffs since 2012 to not feature the Houston Rockets, the first since 2013 not to feature the Toronto Raptors, and the first since 2015 not to feature the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers. These were also the first playoffs since 2010 to feature the Phoenix Suns, and the the first since 2013 to feature the New York Knicks.
