The Big West Conference (known as the Big West) is a conference participating in the NCAA's Division I, with all member institutions in California and Hawaii. It was founded in 1969 as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association, when four members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association decided to move up to the highest level of college sports. The conference changed its name to the Big West in 1989.
