Ronald Glen Davis (born January 1, 1986), also nicknamed "Baby Beluga" or "Big Baby", is an American former professional basketball player. He played for the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, and Los Angeles Clippers in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
After playing college basketball with LSU, Davis was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics with the 35th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. Shortly thereafter, he was traded to the Boston Celtics, with whom he won the 2008 Finals.
Professional Career[]
Boston Celtics (2007-2011)[]
After coming off the bench for the first 19 games of the season, Davis made his first NBA start against the Sacramento Kings on December 12, 2007, in place of injured center Kendrick Perkins. Davis played power forward, and scored an impressive 16 points and 9 rebounds in a Celtics victory. The Celtics would subsequently win the championship in 2008, with Davis playing a role in the team.
On December 5 2008, during a game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Davis would be singled out and criticised by Kevin Garnett, causing him to cry at the end of the bench, earning him the nickname 'Big Baby'.
In the 2009 NBA Playoffs, Davis had significant playing time after injuries to Kevin Garnett. He would have an excellent performance in the Eastern Conference Semi-finals against the Orlando Magic, including a game where Davis would score a buzzer-beater to win the game. However, the Celtics would go on to lose the series with the absence of Garnett.
On August 10, 2009, Davis signed a two-year, $6.5 million contract with the Celtics. Later that season, the Celtics would make the 2010 NBA Finals, but ultimately lose to the Lakers in 7 games.
