- Bradley and Drake left the MVC at the end of the 1951–52 school year. During the 1951 football season, Drake's African-American football star Johnny Bright was the victim of a racially motivated on-field attack by an Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State) player that led to serious injuries. When the MVC and A&M refused to discipline the player responsible for the attack, Drake announced its departure and Bradley left in sympathy with Drake. Both schools would return for non-football sports, but Bradley never returned in football before dropping the sport in 1970 and Drake did not return in football until 1971.
- Missouri State will leave for Conference USA in 2025.
