NBA Slam Dunk Contest is an annual NBA All-Star Weekend event where players showcase their dunking skills. The champion is determined by fans who vote. The first contest was in 1984 at the McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado. Larry Nance was the first champion defeating fellow all stars Julius Erving and Dominique Wilkins.

The WNBA–NBA 2Ball Competition replaced the Slam Dunk Contest in 1998 while there was no Slam Dunk Contest in 1999 due to there being no NBA All-Star Game weekend because of the lockout-shortened season.
