The Southwestern Athletic Conference (known as the SWAC) is a conference participating in the NCAA's Division I. All present and former SWAC members are historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), defined in US federal law as institutions established specifically to educate African Americans before the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Founded in 1920, the SWAC currently has members in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
