The Sun Belt Conference (also known as the SBC) is a conference participating in the NCAA's Division I, with member institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. It was founded in 1976. Sun Belt membership has been relatively volatile, and the conference has sent former members to several other conferences, including the Southland Conference, Conference USA, the Ohio Valley Conference, the Western Athletic Conference and the independent ranks. In 1991, the Sun Belt merged with the former American South Conference, although most of those members have also since departed for other conferences.
