The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is San Antonio's largest public university and currently the second largest university in the University of Texas System. It currently holds the 5th largest enrollment in the state of Texas. The school's athletic program is known as the UTSA Roadrunners.
The main campus is situated on 600 acres (2.4 kmĀ²,) at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Loop 1604 near the northern edge of San Antonio, Texas in Bexar County. The university is also one of the UT System's fastest growing schools, maintaining a 12.04% increase in enrollment during 2001-2003.
Before Incarnate Word moved to NCAA Division I in 2013, UTSA was San Antonio's only Division I institution. UTSA fields 17 intercollegiate sports teams including basketball, cross country, golf, tennis, and indoor and outdoor track & field for both men and women; baseball and football for men; and soccer, softball, and volleyball for women. UTSA's rival in most sports is considered to be Texas State.
Historically, the sport that attracted the most student attention had been men's basketball, but UTSA added football in 2011 and set new attendance records for startup college football teams in its first season of play. The football team became a force within Conference USA (C-USA) in the 2020s, winning conference titles in 2021 and 2022, its last two seasons in that league.
UTSA's basketball teams play at the Convocation Center on campus. The university is a member of C-USA through the 2022ā23 season, after which it will join the American Athletic Conference.
