The UT Southern FireHawks, previously the Martin Methodist RedHawks, represent the University of Tennessee Southern in NAIA sports. The FireHawks have been members of the Mid-South Conference since 2020.
The school was founded in 1870 as the all-women's Martin Female College, changing its name to Martin College in 1908. It became coeducational in 1938 and changed its name to Martin Methodist College in 1968. In 2021, the school was purchased by the state of Tennessee and joined the University of Tennessee system, changing to its current name at that time.
As Martin Methodist, the school had been a member of the TranSouth Athletic Conference and Southern States Athletic Conference before moving to the Mid-South in 2020.
