模板:Unreferenced Brian Lee Cardinal (born May 2 1977 in Tolono, Illinois) is a professional basketball player in the NBA. Nicknamed "The Janitor" for his scrappy play, which, at the beginning of his career, was mainly in garbage minutes, the end of games when the decision was already apparent. Some also say that the nickname came about for his willingness to do the "dirty work" and for the way he "cleaned up the floor" by diving for loose balls.

After a college career at Purdue University, Cardinal selected in the second round by the Detroit Pistons in the 2000 NBA Draft. He played for the Pistons, the Washington Wizards, the Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies, where he signed a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract. He's averaged 8.1 points per game through his career.

He was given his professional nickname, "The Janitor," by fellow teammate Jerome Williams. It is one of many nicknames he has had during his basketball career, the most colorful of which would be "Citizen Pain" (so-named for his penchant for floor burns at Purdue). There is also a book by that name Brian Cardinal: Citizen Pain, which is written about Brian's high school and college basketball career.

Brian Cardinal is known around the NBA as a great, hard-working blue collar type of player. But, unlike many other "extra possession" players (Ryan Bowen, Reggie Evans) he has a great set of skills, developing a very strong 3-point accuracy and one of the best free throw percentages in the league.
